At about the 15 year mark of making the Branta Maximas Short Reed call, I decided to implement some improvements for everyone out in the field to make it even tougher. These changes have enhanced longevity, and did the very thing Branta is always on a quest for… creating and improving-upon the most innovative and durable goose hunting products that exist. Things that work.

First - the Acrylic. Acrylic proves somewhat imperfect as a call material - despite lots of callmakers using it. I had a hunter explain how his call barrel split at a bachelor party/ goose hunt when a buddy spilled a shot of Everclear on it while it was on the table- true story. Acrylic reacts with any strong alcohol by breaking the polymer chain and then it cracks - on its own.

Solution: The barrels are now made from FDA/USDA white Delrin- a very tough material with excellent sound quality.

Second - the lanyard location between the mouthpiece and band caused problems with the mouthpiece being wedged off by the lanyard when grabbing by the barrel in extreme cold weather.

Solution: Now implementing lathe-turned lanyard slots.

Additional enhancements: The mouthpiece is now crafted from FDA Nylon and the barrel meets the mouthpiece with a very tight o-ring seal, lubricated with food grade FDA/USDA Lubri-film®. Same as in your keg tap.

To bring you the best call, I still make each one by hand and tune it. These are not cranked out in an injection mold and assembled by warehouse-people using a ruler or markings for reed tune.

My toneboards and reeds are still 100% original and my own design, borrowing no parts or pieces from large call companies. Ask many of the big boys if they can make that claim. They cannot. Yes, even the guts in most of the $250 competition "customs" come from P.S. Olt or Knight and Hale and they shave their reeds, change the location, or use a different thickness reed material. Aside from differing call lengths or materials, you’re being sold essentially the same musical parts every time.
